Planting Seeds of Abundance

🌱 Planting Seeds of Abundance

Every September, when spring finally wakes up the land here in South Africa, I feel the shift in my bones. The mornings are still a little cool, but the air carries a softness, a promise. My garden comes alive almost overnight — tiny green shoots breaking through the soil, birds calling at dawn, the scent of blossoms drifting through the windows. It’s impossible not to feel the energy of renewal.

For me, spring is when abundance feels the most alive. Everything is pushing upward, reaching for the sun. It’s as though the earth itself is whispering: now is the time to grow. I’ve come to see this season not just as a natural cycle, but as a teacher. And each year, I try to listen.

One spring a few years ago, I decided to make my abundance ritual something tangible. I had been keeping packets of seeds — basil, parsley, and a few marigolds — waiting for the right moment to plant them. On the morning of the new moon, I carried them outside with my journal, a candle, and a small bowl of water I had set under the moonlight the night before.

I started by writing down three intentions on slips of paper: one for financial stability, one for new opportunities, and one for creative growth. Each intention was simple and clear, not a wish but a statement of what I was ready to welcome. Then, I planted the seeds in three separate pots, tucking each paper underneath the soil. As I covered them with earth, I whispered the words aloud, letting the intention take root alongside the seeds.

For weeks afterward, I cared for them like treasures. Every time I watered the plants, I thought about the intention beneath. As the basil sprouted, I felt the same fresh energy in my projects at work. The parsley grew slowly but steadily, mirroring a collaboration I had started with a friend that required patience but promised reward. The marigolds burst into color, reminding me that abundance can be joyful and visible, not just practical.

The ritual wasn’t just symbolic. It changed the way I approached my own growth. Instead of rushing or forcing things, I began to treat opportunities like seedlings — nurturing them, giving them space, and trusting their timing. By December, when summer was in full swing, I could look back and see the connections. My finances had steadied, my collaborations were thriving, and my creativity was blooming in ways I hadn’t expected.

That experience showed me how powerful it can be to weave magic into the physical world. Planting seeds wasn’t just about herbs in the garden. It was about embodying the energy of growth, grounding my intentions in the same soil that sustains all life around me. The earth became my partner in magic, carrying my words into form.

Now, every spring, I repeat the ritual in some way. Sometimes with seeds, sometimes with cuttings from existing plants, sometimes just with a symbolic act of planting in the earth. What matters most isn’t the ritual itself but the care that follows — the daily watering, the attention, the belief that growth takes time. Abundance, I’ve learned, isn’t about asking once and waiting for results. It’s about consistent tending, both to your dreams and to the opportunities life gives you.

This is the spirit I carry into my book on magical abundance. Rituals aren’t meant to be lofty or unreachable. They’re meant to connect you with the land, the cycles, and the practical realities of your life. Planting seeds of intention is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to do this, especially here in the Southern Hemisphere, where spring carries such a vibrant call to grow.

As the wheel of the year turns, abundance shifts its shape — in winter it hides, in autumn it releases, in summer it shines — but in spring, it begins. Every new shoot, every blossom, every birdcall is a reminder: now is the time to plant. Both in the soil and in your life.

Next time, I’ll share how I take this spring energy into summer, when abundance bursts into fullness and the challenge becomes not planting, but harvesting and enjoying what has grown.
